VVMC Treats Pediatric Patients
Vail Valley Medical Center's pediatric hospitalists are specially trained pediatricians who work in the hospital to care for patients from newborn through 17 years old. They are available to manage a broad range of general pediatric issues. They also participate in the resuscitation and stabilization of pediatric patients who need transport for illness and injury. VVMC does not keep critically ill (for example intubated) children because we do not have a PICU. However our Level II NICU is capable of keeping intubated (for 24 hours) and other critically ill newborns.
"VVMC's Pediatric Hospitalist service is three full-time pediatricians strong and able to provide world-class hospital care to the littlest members of the local community as well as young travelers from around the globe said Dr. Miranda medical director of the Pediatric Hospitalist team.
The Pediatric Hospitalist service provides 24/7 hospital coverage for inpatient pediatric admissions ED consults inpatient consults and referrals from community medicine partners. Pediatric Hospitalists are also available for newborn and NICU services and provide consults for patients who may benefit from a pediatrician's second opinion whether in VVMC's newborn nursery and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in surgery in the Emergency Department or even on the phone with a local provider and are happy to answer pediatric questions by phone anytime.
